A road traffic collision has occurred on the A595 at 6.08am in Cumbria this morning, 7th November, south of the junction of the B5345.
The traffic collision, between two vehicles, was severe. Emergency services are currently dealing with the incident and further information will be released once details have been confirmed.
There is currently heavy traffic in the area due to the collision and drivers this morning are being asked to avoid this route. The following diversions are in place:
Northbound traffic is being diverted from the Blackbeck roundabout on the A595 through Haile. Southbound traffic is being diverted from the junction of the B5345 through Beckermet. Neither diversion is suitable for HGVs.
More information has been released this morning by Cumbria Police concerning this incident.
The two vehicles involved in the collision were a HGV and a motorcycle. Tragically the motorcyclist, a man, died at the scene. Police are currently with his family.
The driver of the HGV, a man aged 36 from Dalton-in-Furness, has been taken to West Cumberland Hospital with minor injuries.
Emergency services are continuing to deal with this incident and the road remains closed. Drivers are therefore still being asked to avoid the area.
