A teenage girl has been raped in the Scottish Borders.

The 17-year-old victim was seriously sexually assaulted near a children’s play park in a housing estate in Galashiels.

The attack took place around 12.15am on Sunday in woodland near Langlee Community Centre in Selkirkshire.

Police Scotland sealed off the play park and the woodland area in Primrose Bank as forensic officers searched for evidence.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time or seen anything  to come forward urgently.

A spokesman said: “Enquiries are at an early stage. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland immediately on 101.”
