Police could be struck of the professional register.

Lord Stevens has today announced the future of policing which will see police officers struck off a professional register if they are found guilty of misconduct.

The new proposals are designed to restore faith in the Police Service.

Lord Stevens recommends that police officers receive a new status of chartered Police Officer added on top of the office of constable.

The new reform would bring policing in line with professions such as nursing who already have an register. The Register will be kept by the College Of Policing which will strike police officers off for failure to meet professional standards.

The college of policing would then decide misconduct hearings in public.
