Detective Sgt Stuart Hinton has appeared before the select committee and said he did not mean to refer to the home secretary as ‘this woman’ he has accepted that he made an error in giving his evidence.

he believes the error was not listening to the  recording of the meeting with Andrew Mitchell and did not know at the time of the context the quote was meant.

His forces Chief Constable has confirmed he will be disciplined over the matter.
