Labour has confirmed that under a new labour government they would build and maintain a new Police Standards Authority which will investigate misconduct ensuring rogue officers are held accountable
The announcement came from the Shadow Home Secretary
Yvette Cooper said the failure of the current complaints system to deal with three officers accused of trying to undermine Andrew Mitchell, the former Chief Whip, at the height of the Plebgate affair meant fundamental reform was necessary.
She said the new police code of ethics unveiled by Theresa May, the Home Secretary, and a promise to beef up the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) went “nowhere near far enough on police standards”.
