Police have now formally identified a man who died after he was struck by a lorry on the A1(M) late on Monday evening, 21st October.
He was 29-year-old Kenneth Laidlaw, from Stanley. Mr Laidlaw was struck by the lorry on the northbound carriageway of the A1 at junction 61, near to Bowburn services at about 11:45pm on Monday night.
Mr Laidlaw suffered serious injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.
The lorry driver, a 44-year-old man from Consett was shocked but unhurt.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a man near the slip road area at Bowburn services or walking in the northbound carriageway of the A1 near to Bowburn services at the time mentioned.
