Police and emergency services have confirmed they have found two bodies in the River Wear in Washington.
It is believed two teenage girls got in to trouble while swimming in the water.
Police dive team who had been searching the River Wear for the two girls found the second body.
Northumbria Police tweeted.
Northumbria Police said “At just before 9pm search teams found the body of a female.
Around 10pm a second female was found.
The families of both girls have been informed and both bodies have been taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.”
