Driver arrested after two die on A19 lorry smash.

A Lorry driver has been arrested following a crash which has killed two people who were traveling on a motorbike on the A19 northbound near Hawthorn Services. Easington, County Durham at 2.45am.

Police confirmed that a 20 year old male and a 21 year old female died at the scene.

The HGV driver aged 51 from Pontefract, West Yorkshire, was unhurt. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was held at Peterlee Police Station and released on bail till September 25th.

Police closed both north and southbound carriageway of the A19.
